This is the first career DL stint for Gray, who is 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA in nine starts.
Gray, 26, who is coming off his first All-Star season, hasn't resembled the young, budding ace who has a 3.17 ERA in 85 career games. His 6.19 ERA this season is third-highest in the American League, and he heads to the DL amid a career-high-tying four-game losing streak, during which he has a 10.38 ERA and .337 opponents' batting average.
This marks Coulombe's second stint with the A's, after allowing three runs in two innings on May 10 against the Red Sox. The lefty has a 0.56 ERA and .135 opponents' batting average in 13 Triple-A relief appearances.
