And while Bradley has a ways to go to catch DiMaggio, if he extends his hitting streak to 28 games, he'll be just the 15th player since the turn of the century to get that far. Here's a look at other some facts and figures regarding Bradley's pursuit of DiMaggio's record:

• Since DiMaggio's streak ended on July 15, 1941, 46 players have had hitting streaks of 28 games or better. Rose's 44 is the longest, while the Dodgers' Jimmy Rollins owns the longest streak among active players at 38, set from 2005-06 with the Phillies.

• In that span, the only player to record a hit in 28 or more consecutive games twice remains DiMaggio himself. After his record-setting streak in 1941, he went 34 straight games with at least one base hit from June 29 through Aug. 7, 1949.

• Only 14 different players have reached 28 games or more since 2000. The last five to do it are Nolan Arenado (28 games with the Rockies in 2014), Denard Span (29 with the Nationals in 2013), Dan Uggla (33 with the Braves in 2011), Andre Ethier (30 with the Dodgers in 2011) and Ryan Zimmerman (30 with the Nationals in 2009).

• Bradley is trying to become the sixth player in Red Sox history to record a 28-game hitting streak. The five others are Johnny Damon (29 games, 2005), Nomar Garciaparra (30, 1997), Wade Boggs (28, 1985), Dom DiMaggio (34, 1949) and Tris Speaker (30, 1912).

• As it stands, Bradley has the longest hitting streak for a Red Sox player since David Ortiz, who also recorded a hit in 27 straight games from July 2, 2012 to May 7, 2013. The last Boston hitter to do so within the same season was Manny Ramirez (also 27 games) in 2006.

• Bradley's previous longest hitting streak was eight games, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7, 2015. His current streak is the longest by a Red Sox player since Jacoby Ellsbury went 19 games in 2013.

• When DiMaggio reached 27 games in 1941, he was batting .377 (40-for-106) with 28 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, seven homers, 25 RBIs, 10 walks and five strikeouts during the streak. Amazingly, he didn't strike out again over the remaining 29 games.

Through 27 games of his streak, Bradley compares favorably to the Hall of Famer. In that span, he's hitting .408 (40-for-98) with 17 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, eight homers, 29 RBIs, 14 walks and 20 strikeouts.

• Throughout the course of his entire 56-game streak, DiMaggio hit .408 (91-for-223) with 56 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, 15 homers, 55 RBIs, 21 walks and five strikeouts.

• When DiMaggio's streak started, his Yankees were 14-14 and in fourth place in the American League. When it ended, New York was 56-27 and in first place. At the onset of Bradley's current streak, his Red Sox were 9-9 and in third place in the AL East. They enter play today ranked second in the division with a 27-17 record.
