Beltran, 39, will likely be the Rangers' DH going down the stretch but could also play outfield. He makes up for the loss of Prince Fielder, who is out for the season after having neck surgery. He has been having a resurgent year, hitting .304 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in his 19th Major League season.
Beltran is in the final of a three-year, $45 million contract and can be a free agent after the season. He is a nine-time All-Star -- including this season -- and has a career average of .281 with 414 homers and 1,507 RBIs. He has a .332 average with 16 homers and a .674 slugging percentage in 52 postseason games.
Tate, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 Draft out of UC-Santa Barbara, has struggled in his first full year of pro ball. In 65 innings for low Class A Hickory he has a 5.12 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 27 walks. He was most recently ranked the Rangers' No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline.com.
