Mets reportedly on verge of acquiring Bruce

lundi 1 août 2016

Bruce, 29, leads the National League with 80 RBIs in 97 games, thanks in large part to a .360 batting average with runners in scoring position -- a significant bugaboo for the Mets' current lineup, which ranks last in the Majors in that category at .206. Bruce is both a natural right fielder and a left-handed hitter, meaning he is likely to displace Curtis Granderson at that position.

The Mets came close to acquiring Bruce at the Deadline last year, but they balked at the Reds' asking price of a package centered around starting pitcher Zack Wheeler. They traded for Cespedes instead, giving up Michael Fulmer in the deal with the Tigers.

This year, the Mets focused on Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who ultimately vetoed a deal to the Indians on Sunday. At that time, the Mets pivoted to Bruce.

Nimmo, the Mets' fifth-ranked prospect, appeared in 18 games this season over his first two big league stints with the Mets. The organization's first-round Draft pick in 2011, Nimmo batted .336 with seven home runs in 72 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets are still looking for relief pitching in advance of Monday's 4 p.m. ET Deadline.
