Here's what to watch for throughout the day (all times in ET):

Sale joins Crosstown Classic: CWS@CHC, 8:05 p.m.
Prior to his suspension, Sale started the second-half on a high note, tossing eight scoreless innings in Seattle while limiting the Mariners to just one hit. The White Sox ace has been the subject of trade speculation as the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline nears. Sale, however, told MLB.com that he wants to remain in Chicago and doesn't expect to be dealt.

"I'm going to show up on Thursday and do what I've always done. That's get ready to play baseball and put everything I got into winning that game," Sale said.

For the home team, Lackey will take the ball, seeking his first win since June 8. He is 0-5 with a 5.73 ERA in eight starts since.

Stat that matters: The additional time off from his suspension may end up benefiting Sale. He has a 2.13 ERA in 19 career starts when pitching on six or more days of rest.

Gordon rejoins Marlins: STL@MIA, 7:10 p.m.
The Marlins lineup will be receiving a boost today in the opener of their four-game series with the Cardinals as Dee Gordon's 80-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances comes to an end. The two-time All-Star was batting .266 with six stolen bases in 21 games before his suspension. Gordon has been playing at Triple-A New Orleans and will be eased back into the big leagues, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

Miami will have ace Jose Fernandez on the mound, and right-hander Michael Wacha goes for St. Louis. The Cardinals have a tall task ahead; Fernandez has been at his best when pitching at Marlins Park, where he's 26-1 with a 1.47 ERA and 296 strikeouts in 239 1/3 career innings.

Stat that matters: Fernandez is trying for his 13th win, which would establish a career best for him. He's already matched his previous high from when he went 12-6 during his 2013 National League Rookie of the Year campaign.

deGrom looks to rebound: COL@NYM, 1:10 p.m.
deGrom endured his worst start of 2016 his last time out, surrendering a season-high five runs in a season-low 3 2/3 innings vs. the Marlins. It was a rare hiccup in an otherwise stellar year.

"He didn't have command of any of his pitches," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "A lot of balls were out over the middle of the plate and up. Very uncharacteristic, but you know what, [it] happens."

deGrom will look to return to form when his Mets match up against the Rockies today. Colorado will counter with rookie southpaw Tyler Anderson, who's limited his opponents to three or fewer runs in seven of his eight Major League starts.

Stat that matters: Opponents have hit just .200 (8-for-40) with two walks against Anderson in his two big league starts on the road.
