With their sights set on rotation depth for postseason run, the Marlins reportedly struck a deal with the Padres on Friday that would send right-hander Andrew Cashner to Miami according to ESPN's Buster Olney. Neither team has commented on or confirmed the deal.
The 29-year-old Cashner is set become a free agent after this season. He is 4-7 with a 4.76 ERA in 16 starts this year, but has looked better of late, with a 2.55 ERA and 23-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his past three outings.
The Marlins enter play on Friday tied with the Cardinals for the second National League Wild Card spot, with a 55-47 record.
Cashner has compiled a career record of 39-49 with a 3.73 ERA in 190 starts over seven seasons in the Majors with the Cubs and the Padres.
