Lucroy focused on baseball, not trade rumors

Did he wish he knew more about what general manager David Stearns & Co. had cooking?

"One day, it would be cool to know the full details, but right now, I'm worried about playing the game, and I'm focused on that right now," Lucroy said. "Maybe down the road, I'll call Stearns up and ask how it all went down -- if it does."

The Braves, Indians, Mariners, Mets, Rangers, Red Sox and one "mystery team" were all linked to Lucroy in reports over the past two days. The Tigers and Astros, two teams with whom the Brewers previously had discussions, had distanced themselves, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The Braves and Brewers had talks but are "not presently lining up," according to MLB Network's Ken Rosenthal, who said the Brewers asked interested teams on Thursday to make offers that met a "minimum standard." The Mets were one of the teams to make such an offer, according to Rosenthal. The Indians are considered the strongest suitor, sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi. The report of a "mystery team" came from MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Adding to the intrigue, ESPN's Crasnick cracked Lucroy's eight-team no-trade list, and the Indians and Mariners are on it. Lucroy also can block a deal to the Angels, A's, Nationals, Padres, Tigers and Twins.

That does not preclude a trade to any of those teams, however. The list was set during Spring Training, after Lucroy spoke publicly about his strong desire to play for a contender. Often, a player will waive his no-trade right if the acquiring team makes some kind of financial concession. It's believed that Lucroy would do so for the Indians.

Lucroy declined to answer questions about his no-trade clause.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he'd discussed the Trade Deadline with Lucroy, but he would not detail the message delivered.

"It's hectic and kind of crazy to think about," Lucroy said, "but it's part of the business, and I've seen guys go through it before. It's the first time for me, really. I realize this is a time that things could change drastically, or they could stay the same. So I'm just kind of waiting to see what happens and just take it day by day. I'll worry about all that stuff if and when it comes up."
