TORONTO -- Manny Machado just kept running, and his hustle paid off on the basepaths on Friday night, as the O's infielder scored from first base on Chris Davis' routine third-inning groundout.
Machado, who had rounded second on Davis' out, drew a throw across the diamond from first baseman Justin Smoak that bounced out of catcher Russell Martin's glove on an attempted tag while he covered the bag. The ball skipped away from Martin and no one was covering the plate, leaving room for Machado to hustle home.
The run tied the game at 3, but the Blue Jays went on to answer with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. An error was charged to Martin for his missed catch.
