O's slide by Rox for 2nd straight walk-off win

lundi 25 juillet 2016

Jones, who had the Orioles' two RBIs, singled with one out in 10th to start the rally. He advanced to third on Jonathan Schoop's single before scoring. The Orioles' fifth walk-off win of the season ended the Rockies' four-game winning streak and pushed Baltimore's win streak to five.

The Rockies tied the game in the fourth on Nolan Arenado's 26th homer and took the lead for the first time in the seventh when David Dahl picked up his first career hit and scored on Mark Reynolds' single, but they couldn't hold on to it. In the bottom half of the inning, Reimold came around to score on a ground ball by Jones after he was hit by a pitch.

While both starters entered with ERAs over 5.50, they managed to contain the high-powered offenses they faced. Rockies lefty Jorge De La Rosa allowed two runs (one earned) in 6 1/3 innings, while O's righty Yovani Gallardo held the Rockies to two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Keeping it going: As the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline inches closer, the O's starting rotation keeps trying to prove a trade isn't necessary. Gallardo's quality start was the fifth time in a row an Orioles starter allowed two earned runs or fewer. In that five-game span, Baltimore's staff has allowed five earned runs in 32 2/3 innings (1.38 ERA). For Gallardo, it marked the second time he's recorded an out in the seventh inning after being unable to do so in each of his first 10 starts this season.

Yovani Gallardo tosses 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Rockies, allowing five hits and striking out six

Arenado gets his groove back: After committing two errors in the first two innings -- the second of which contributed to Baltimore's first run -- Arenado redeemed himself in the fourth with a homer to lead off the frame. Arenado sent a 1-0 offering from Gallardo over the left-field wall, tying the game at 1. Since going a season-high 11 straight games without a home run, Arenado has gone deep three times in his last four.

WHAT'S NEXT
Rockies: The Rockies send Chad Bettis (8-6, 5.31 ERA) to the mound for Game 2 in Baltimore on Tuesday at 5:05 p.m. MT. Bettis impressed in his last outing, throwing 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in a 7-3 win against Atlanta on Thursday. The Rockies are 7-1 in Bettis' last eight starts, with the right-hander boasting a 4-1 mark over that stretch

Orioles: Chris Tillman (14-2, 3.18 ERA) will go for his Major League-leading 15th win in the second game of the series at 7:05 ET on Tuesday. The O's ace has dominated his past four times out, going 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA. In each of those four starts, Tillman went seven innings while allowing just one earned run.
