Dominant Roark records 15 K's vs. Twins

samedi 23 avril 2016

WASHINGTON -- Nationals right-hander Tanner Roark delivered the most dominant start of his career Saturday afternoon against the Twins, striking out a career-high 15 batters in seven shutout innings.

Fifteen of the 21 outs he recorded were via the strikeout, and only his high pitch count prevented him from pitching deeper into the game. He held the Twins to just two hits and walked three, finishing the day with 121 pitches, 78 of which were for strikes.

It's the second double-digit strikeout game of his career, shattering his previous career best of 11 strikeouts in eight innings on June 6, 2014, against the Padres. Roark broke his previous career high in the fifth inning on Saturday.

The Twins' offense is aggressive at the plate and began the day tied for the sixth-most strikeouts in the Majors, but Roark had only struck out nine through his first 17 innings this season.
