DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera's left Friday's Tigers-White Sox game in the seventh inning with lower back tightness after struggling his way around the basepaths.

Replays showed Cabrera grimacing on his way to first base on a one-out RBI single. Three batters later, his discomfort at third base drew the attention of Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand.

Cabrera headed back to the dugout before Rand could reach him at third. Andrew Romine pinch-ran for him and stayed in the game at first base.

The Tigers announced Cabrera's situation as day to day. He could get a slight break this weekend as the designated hitter, with Victor Martinez filling in at first base.
