In a corresponding move, the Yankees designated first baseman Ike Davis for assignment. They picked up Davis earlier this month after Teixeira went on the DL, the latest in a slew of injuries to Yankees first basemen in 2016.
The Yankees opted to keep Rob Refsnyder on the active roster over Davis. The 25-year-old Refsnyder had assumed some of the first-base duties in Teixeira's absence.
