Gordon likely to return to Royals on Saturday

vendredi 24 juin 2016

"We'll see how he feels tonight," manager Ned Yost said before Friday night's series opener at Kauffman Stadium.

Yost previously had indicated that Gordon would need about 20-25 at-bats when he went out on assignment last Sunday. Gordon was 5-for-15 with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, and, entering Friday night's game, was 2-for-5 with Omaha.

"He's swinging the bat good," Yost said. "He got two more hits last night. But the most important thing is that he feels good."

Yost said there would be no restrictions on Gordon's playing time once he returned.

"He's fine," Yost said. "Feels good."

Yost also said he has an idea where he will hit Gordon in the lineup, but isn't hinting where.

"We'll figure it out when he comes back," Yost said.

Mondesi starts rehab assignment
Shortstop Raul Mondesi, the Royals' No. 1 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, is set to begin a rehab assignment at Class A Advanced Wilmington on Saturday, the team announced.

Mondesi was suspended 50 games by MLB for violating the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Mondesi is eligible for a rehab assignment prior to his suspension ending because he is on the 40-man roster, Yost said.

Mondesi does not get paid while on suspension. He is eligible to come off the restricted list and return to Double-A Northwest Arkansas, barring rainouts, on July 4.

Mondesi, 20, was hitting .250 with five homers and 11 steals in 25 games with Northwest Arkansas prior to the suspension.
