Pence goes on DL with hamstring strain

jeudi 2 juin 2016

Pence hurt himself as he tried to beat out a ground ball in the fourth inning of the Giants' 5-4, 11-inning loss to the Atlanta Braves. He stopped running when he was about halfway to first base, a clear indication that something was wrong. Pence left the game immediately and was replaced by Jarrett Parker, who's likely to receive increased playing time if Pence is sidelined.

Pence and the Giants expected to learn the full extent of his injury when he underwent an MRI scheduled for Thursday morning.

Pence returned to full-time duty last Friday after being held out of the lineup for six consecutive games. He had played without incident since then. In fact, Pence said he almost skipped undergoing his usual pregame treatment for his hamstring Wednesday because it felt so healthy.

"I went and got treatment but I didn't think I needed it," said Pence, who ranks second among Giants regulars in hitting (.298), shares the team lead in home runs with Buster Posey (seven) and tops the club with 38 RBIs. "Because it was feeling strong. I guess my confidence led me to think I could push everything I had. It didn't work out that time."

Pence joins left fielder Angel Pagan, another integral member of San Francisco's lineup who's trying to recover from a strained left hamstring, on the DL.
