O's put O'Day on DL with hamstring strain

vendredi 3 juin 2016

The Orioles will be without a key member of their bullpen after placing All-Star reliever Darren O'Day on the disabled list Friday with a right hamstring strain.

O'Day, who signed a four-year, $31 million contract this offseason, is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 22 games. He's been one of Baltimore's most valuable relievers, having pitched to a 2.00 ERA in 295 games since 2012.

But O'Day has allowed four runs over his last six appearances. He's already allowed four home runs this season in 20 innings after allowing five in 65 1/3 innings in 2015.

In a corresponding move, the Orioles recalled Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk a day after optioning him. He had been sent down to improve his command after allowing six runs in 2 2/3 innings to Boston on Wednesday. Wright is 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) this season. It is unclear whether he will return to the rotation or help mitigate the loss of O'Day in the bullpen.

The O's recently added left-hander Brian Duensing to the bullpen, and have starter Yovani Gallardo currently on a rehab assignment.
