BALTIMORE -- Tuesday night's game between the Orioles and Royals turned heated when Baltimore infielder Manny Machado charged the mound and landed a punch to the face of Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura. Machado stormed out of the batter's box after being hit by a pitch in the back in the fifth inning. He made a beeline for Ventura as both benches cleared and the bullpens emptied.
Both players were ejected following the fight, which came with Baltimore leading 5-1. It appeared to have roots in Machado's previous at-bat, in the second inning. Ventura threw inside a few times and Machado flied out, with television cameras catching both players jawing at each other and first base umpire CB Bucknor shooing Machado back to the dugout.

Ventura wasted no time in their next meeting, drilling Machado with a first-pitch 99-mph fastball. Both players were separated by coaches and teammates and ejected from the game after the incident died down. The crowd at Oriole Park at Camden Yards got to its feet and started chanting, "Manny, Manny" while things played out.
It marked both players' first ejection of the season.
Ventura was suspended seven games for his role in the Royals' brouhaha with the White Sox on April 25, 2015. Tuesday's ejection was the third of Ventura's career.
Machado has let his temper get the best of him before. He was suspended five games in 2014 for throwing a bat. Tuesday marked his fourth career ejection.
Machado was replaced by Paul Janish, who scored on Mark Trumbo's homer off Ventura's replacement, Chien-Ming Wang.
